Join us for a comprehensive review of Toyoda Shihan's 6 Kumitachi. During this seminar, we will review all 6 paired katas and review details about kiai, maai, and tai sabaki. While students should be familiar with basic sword strikes, blocks, and parries, prior experience of kumitachi is not required. Students should come with their own bokken free of cracks and splinters. Additional weapons are not available at the dojo.
Parking is limited in front of the dojo. Additional parking can be found behind the building just south of 156th St.
Cost for the event is $30. Payment can be made on the day of the event by cash, card or check.

Have you ever wanted to start a martial art but didn't know how or where to begin? Join us for an afternoon for an introduction to the Japanese martial art of Aikido. Aikido is an art which strives to bring peaceful resolutions to conflict of all kinds. Practiced as both a martial art and an energetic system of movement, Aikido has numerous physical and spiritual benefits which helps refine the practitioner's life.
Participants should wear comfortable clothing which will allow for movement. Sweatpants, leggings and t-shirts are all appropriate attire. A water bottle is recommended as well.
Parking is limited in front of the dojo. Additional parking can be found behind the building just south of 156th St.
Cost for the event is $25. Payment can be made on the day of the event by cash, card or check.

Hatsugeiko is traditionally the first training of the new year in which practitioners rededicate themselves to the intensive spirit of shugyo, setting the tone for their training for the new year.
Everyone is welcome, regardless of experience or affiliation.

Atemi Waza Seminar - Saturday September 30th 9am-12pm

Come join us at Great Lakes Aikido to learn more about striking training! The goal of this seminar is to focus on how to incorporate striking into some of the body movements and techniques typically covered in Aikido. Basics such as how to properly align your hand and body to deliver a strike, the power line, the drop step, and how to take proper ukemi when receiving atemi will be covered. This seminar won’t be comprehensive, but it will provide participants with a foundation to explore atemi-waza in the context of further study.
Instructor: Matt Lowry Sensei, 4th Dan
Cost: $40
This seminar is open to all martial artists, regardless of style, rank, or experience. Wear light, loose fitting clothing (such as a t-shirt and sweatpants) or a gi if you have one.
We will also be going to a nearby restaurant after the seminar for food and fellowship. You are welcome to join us!

Women's Self-Defense Seminar - Sunday October 29th, 11am-1pm

Join us for a 2 hour seminar geared towards women which teaches the basics of self-defense including situational awareness, how to use the body and voice along with simple escapes from common attacks.
The seminar will be taught by Jim Tabor. Jim has practiced martial arts for over 30 years and is the chief instructor at Crestwood Aikido Shinjinkan Dojo. Jim has taught self defense classes along with traditional martial arts over his career and emphasizes practical, real world technique.
The cost of the seminar is $50 and can be paid at the door on the day of the event.
